My Brother's Childhood Memories

      By Newaz

I interviewed Babar, my brother.  Babar is 19 years old and he is from Bangladesh. When Babar was a child, his favorite person was his mother, because he loved his mother so much. He started to say ‘’Mama’’ when he was 1 years old before he could say ‘’Pappa’’.
One of the funniest memories that I have of Babar is when he was 6 or 7 years old, he went swimming in a pond with his friends. The pond was full of fish and one of them bit his lag and he lough because it tickled. This was the first time a fish ever bit him.
Babar has so many sad memories. But one of sad memory of him is when he was 7 or 8 years old and in primary school he had an exam in English, but he didn’t get first place in this exam. The memory was sad because that was the first time when he couldn’t be first. ’’When he said that story I felt sad too, for him’’.
Babar also has a scary memory. Everyday Babar used to play with the trees. Every day he claimed trees, he felt good because once that he was on the top of a tree he felt like a king. He felt like a king because when he on the top of the trees he could see his entire kingdom. But, something there happening bad and it’s when he was 9 years old he claimed a tree and then he tried to go up. Suddenly the branches broke and he fell down, and also he broke his leg. “Really it was a scary memory’’. It was so scary because he broke his leg and he couldn’t walk for 4 months.
Babar was a good student; in 2001 he had a final exam in the primary school and this exam 10 student got A+. Babar was one of them. Also he was a good boy too, he never gets angry with anybody and he talked with people respectfully, the all school teachers liked him. But some time Babar is so angry, when he is hungry. His favorite food was fried fish with rice, and also he liked to eat chocolate, biscuits, different kind of fruit etc.
He had so many favorite games to play like soccer, cricket, hide and seek, run competition etc. His most favorite game was cricket and hides and seeks. Cricket was his favorite because he was an awesome batsman and he liked to play hide and seek with his friends because the game was too much fun for him. ‘’Really now I miss my childhood memories too, because I liked to play hide and seek with my friends ’’.
At least, Babar likes his childhood memories so much, he miss it so much, he think that childhood memories is always favorite for all person , because there have different kind of memory like sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes good and sometimes bad. He thinks he is growing up so faster. He wants to go back again in his children.

Far Away

By Daniel Hernandez

 Far Away!!

In the beautiful country of Tarlac Manila Philippines, there's a girl named it Rexanne. She grew up with a beautiful culture that all her family have been doing for many years.
All her childhood she grew up doing all her traditions, festivals that she will will keep doing with her family and friends. One thing that she likes the most is when they celebrate their culture, they go to church to pray and even though its not a Holiday they still go every Sunday in the morning by themselves or with other relatives. When an occasion comes the Filipinos celebrate it with some delicious food like lechon, adobo, sinigang and tinola, those kind of food are some traditions of them that they like the most.
After all his childhood, she was in the Philippines but after 15 years living there her father decided to bring her to the United States to have a better future and a good career for her and her brother. Even though she didn't like that idea, she came in this new country already knowing English. It was hard to adapt in a new city, new life with people that she doesn't know to a new start for her. It was difficult to leave so far her family and all her relatives that it was with her including her culture. Everyday, she thinks about her country and all the amazing things that that she did everyday. The most that she miss from there, specially the fiestas, the food that are seller by the vendors on the streets that make her so happy and proud of her culture. She fells that her country and the United States are very different in everything. One way that both are different is that the USA government help more the poor people or the homeless people that do not have nothing, like in the Philippines the government do not help the people and they are starving because they don't have food to eat, no money... today "Rexy" she just wants to go visit family, friends and her mom in the Philippines she doesn't want to stay there permanently but she likes the U.S. more, she prefers this country.!
As the people say there's no place like your real home. THE END

The Earthquake

On Sunday evening, March 17th, 2013 I interviewed my father, James about the 1989 earthquake. That earthquake happened twenty four years ago on October 17th, 1989 the Epicenter was near Santa Cruz and at around, 5 pm and it started and lasted for 10-15 seconds, measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale which is very high. Because of that earthquake 63 people died, 3,757 were injured and 3,000-12,000 people were left homeless. The earthquake shook everything around San Francisco especially in Marina district.
“It was a beautiful afternoon, the streets were very quiet and no one was around. I was sitting in my living room watching a television, waiting for the World Series to begin” he said. The two teams remaining out of all the teams in Canada and the United States that competed in Major League Baseball were the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Ace. So, almost everyone in the Bay Area was near a TV waiting to watch the game begin.
When that earthquake shook everything, my dad first thought of his shoes because everything started moving and falling down from the walls and from the ceiling so if you are wearing only socks you really want to know where your shoes are. So, he was lying down on the floor, wondering “when will it stop”. Then, the building was moving so much that he rolled over to a doorway and looked down to the hall, to see how far his shoes were.
The walls were moving like sheets of paper, waiving back and forth like they were made out of rubber or something. And, of course you cannot ever know when it would stop. The 1989 earthquake was one of the biggest earthquakes in the Bay Area. For example, the whole city was shut down for two days and many buildings caught on fire. Also, a section of Bay Bridge roadway fell and people were trapped in the Bart tube that goes under the Bay and many people had to walk to their homes, even some people crossed the city on foot. For example, some people who could not get back home walked all the way to my father’s house near the beach from downtown to spend a night or so.
At first, I thought that fifteen seconds is a short amount of time to cause great damage but I realized that if you count to fifteen it is enough time to cause a lot of damage. In conclusion, my father recommends that If there is an earthquake, make sure you have a flashlight, food that does not need to be refrigerated, water and camp equipment because if there is a big earthquake it is going to be like as you are going for camping for a few days or more.

Falling In and Out of Love

I interviewed my cousin Zenith Brile Leonadio and this story is about love.

Zenith first fell in love when he was a 6th Grader. He describes this girl as a lovely, pretty, kind and an almost perfect girl named Kysshia.

Kysshia was a 5th Grader but both of them are in different departments even if they’re in the same school.
Both of them are friends. They hadn’t seen each other for a year but they’re really close. Then after a long time of being friends Kysshia realized that she's slowly liking Zenith. When Zenith knew this he told Kysshia that he likes someone else, that he wasn’t interested and told her not to bother anymore. After this conversation they didn't talk for almost 2 months. After 2 months both of them saw each other again but this time things were different. The time Zenith saw Kysshia he felt something. He started liking her but that time Kysshia had a boyfriend and Zenith felt bad about it . Surprisingly , when Kysshia knew about how Zenith felt she immediately  broke up with her boyfriend and chose Zenith.

Zenith and Kysshia were happy together until a problem entered their relationship. Their parents didn’t knew they were together so when Kysshia’s brother knew, both of them didn't talk for about a month. Zenith was so sad and he always talks to Kysshia’s best friend Kate.

Kate and Zenith were so "close" that made Kate feel something about Zenith . Kate knew it was wrong but she thought Zenith will pick her. Since Zenith was so sad about Kysshia , he took advantage of Kate and used her as his past time. After several weeks, when things were better with Kysshia and Zenith and they were back together, Zenith left Kate and came back to Kysshia and as for Kysshia and Kate’s friendship it was broken and they didn't talk for months.

Unexpectedly, Kysshia fell for another guy and left Zenith . Zenith was so depressed he started to not eat and cut himself . Zenith thought it was for the better and things got even worse . Zenith was so sick that he had to be checked in to a Hospital. After being hospitalized, he realized that he needed a friend who’ll understand him and Kate was that friend. Kate comforted him and was there for him the whole time despite of the things Zenith did to her in the past. After a while maybe 2 months Zenith realized he was slowly falling in love with Kate. He told Kate what he felt and Kate felt the same.

Zenith and Kate were together for several months, things were good and they were happy together until Kate dumped Zenith. Again Zenith was depressed and even more depressed when he knew Kate likes his best friend. He thought that using other girls will make him feel better so he used 4 girls to forget about Kate but it didn’t work.

Zenith knew that it didn't worked out for Kate and his friend so as Kate's friend it was his turn to comfort Kate and after some years Zenith knows that he still feels the same for Kate. So , this is where he applied the phrase "DONT GIVE UP" because he believes that nothing is too impossible if you try. Zenith took the chance to make Kate fall in love with him again and Kate did .

The Story of My Life

Jose L

My interview is about Zanetti. The topic was about many cultures in his life. When I was young I had a lot of problems with my father so I decided to move to another country and start a new life by myself. I made a trip to Lisbon, Portugal with my best friend so when we moved to Lisbon I started to learn the language and the culture too. For the first months I was shy because I was really new in the language but I really love the culture in the first time and I started to do what the people in Lisbon did every single weekend, so and few months after that we made plans to travel to different countries to learn languages and have good experiences in new things.  I wanted to know cultures and languages because in the future that can help me a lot in many jobs or also to choices a college career will be easy. But for me it was something more important I wanted to know how was the life in other parts of the world because my life always was easy, I had everything like money, food, and a beautiful family that always support me when I needed. I learned cultures from the countries that I visited. For example Portugal, Spain, Greece, Morocco, Indonesia, England, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. I learned the cultures from all this countries because as a child I really wanted to travel to all this countries and also because I love their food. I started to travel when I was 19 years old and I just spend 1 or 2 years in each country. When I trip to those countries I learned their traditional dances, religions, hobbies, and other things like what kind of plants (food) that grows really well in their lands. In those countries people speaks Spanish, Portuguese, English, Greek, Indonesian, and Macedonian. In some of this languages I had a lot of struggles because their pronunciation is really hard and also how to write it too. Sometimes these cultures and languages confused me but you know parts of every single culture is different, every culture have something special. When I passed for all this experiences I liked everything because at this time all those things made the person who I am now.

Travel Of War

  By: Changming

During world war 2, Japanese invading my grandfather’s city worried about they will kill people and rob, so my grandfather and his parents and his sisters star to escaped from their city, since Japanese soldiers take down Beijing, they just killed people who against them, but at the later time of the war, the Japanese soldier killed many people and robed thing for no reason, before the war my grandfather was rich, he life whit his family, he was rich, because my grandfather’s grandfather sanded money to them from America, so also his life was good, but during the war japan broken all the transportation in china, so his grandfather can’t send  the money to them, that time was the most poor time when his was a little boy, when japan invading china my grandfather felt worst.

When Japanese soldiers were invaded NaJin, they killed all the citizen, they were innocent, he think maybe 30 minion people dead in NanJin, when my grandfather stared escaped the first place they went was form Beijing to Guangzhou, but after about 1 and half year, the Japanese soldiers invading to Guangzhou, so they went to Hong Kong, but after one year, Japan invade to Hong Kong, in that time you can’t see china at the map, but my grandfather escape’s last stop is Taishan, Taishan is he’s home town, their home town isn’t Beijing, they just go to study. My grandfather most dangers moment and difficult thing was when he with families escaped from Hong Kong to Taishan, that time if the Japanese soldiers if some people who are escaping or against them, they just shoot them and kill them, my grandfather’s families and the helper who mastery the escape line that go away from Hong Kong, that time the soldiers was close to found them, there were every single corner had guarder, my grandfather thought there when the guarder go away to other place patrol. After this they arrived Taishan, there was safe, because those people gave food and resource to soldiers, so they not hurt people. At that time was hardest time for my grandfather, because they can’t get money from his grandfather they were poor, they didn’t had food.

My grandfather think war is bad because will so many people dead, if war happen again he would don’t know what to do, because it didn’t happen.
