Difficulties of War

By:  Erin Palma

Medhanie is a young man who is 17 years old. He has a big smile and who also was involved with his dad and his family. There was a war that happened in his country, Eritrea. The war lasted from 1961 until 1991 the two countries of Eritrea and Ethiopia.
The war between Eritrea and Ethiopia happened because these two countries were both one country, but later they separated because Ethiopia wants to take Eritrea land and water. Eritrea did not want to give them their land and water so they started fighting with each other.
Medhanie felt very bad because he lost family members and his dad was injured. So for Medhanie it was really frustrating that his country had been destroyed by the Ethiopians. Medhanie decided to stay in his country with his family because they didn’t want to leave their country. It was hard for them to leave their family in their country. They decide to stay in their country and hide because the war was still there and they didn’t want to get killed.
But they didn’t stay the entire war because it was really hard and difficult for them. They came to the United States as refugees, and also to be happy and to be safe, but also sad because his dad went back to his country to work.
Now Medhanie is studying in the United States and he is getting a good education. Even though Medhanie is safe in the United States., also the war is not entirely over in his country, Eritrea.
