Lucy’s two different lives

by Jingjing Zeng

This story is about Lucy. Lucy is Chinese, but she was born in U.S.A. However later, she went back to China when she was six years old. Before her life in U.S.A. she only played with her little sister, her mom was very busy and she really didn’t card about school. However one day, Lucy’s parents wanted Lucy to go back to China with her sister, because they think she could get a better education in China. When she found out this in the beginning she felt very scared, because she didn’t know how to speak Chinese and it was a new environment for her, but she got used to all the things very fast and felt that it was a pretty good decision and a good experience.
When she go back to China, her life was totally different that her life in America. Language was the biggest problem. The first summer she had to take Chinese to catch up. School was much harder in China. Meeting new friends, getting up earlier, and focusing more or homework was the challenges for her. The education is very different between China and America. In China, the teachers focus more on the student’s grade. They think the best way to go to a good college is to get high grades. In America, teachers will also look at the activities you do after school; grades are not the most important thing but whether you really work hard and your interests are more important.
Lucy likes both countries, because there are good things and bad things in both countries. China feels more like her home. She has lost of friends there. She can learn basic knowledge. And America gave she more Chinese to improve and challenge herself, she can get detail information and more experience from here. When I asked her what happen if she has a child, will she send her child back China; this question made her feel confused. She said she doesn’t know. She had thought about this question sending her child back China would maybe be good for education, but she’s also afraid that when her child comes back to America, English would turn into a problem just like how she is right now.
This is a about how Lucy feels about her life and what differences there are two countries.
